A Message from our Managing Director: In the coming weeks, STEMSOFT will participate in external audits for both our corporate Environmental Management (ISO 14001) and Quality Management (ISO 9001) systems. These are useful reminders to all our team members of our commitment to supporting your patients, your processes, and your goals with consistent and sustainable products and services. I firmly believe that public standards are one of the most effective ways that STEMSOFT can help you achieve your goals. Specifically, HL7® FHIR® (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) and the Biologically Derived Product concept. I wrote about Biologically Derived Product in our last newsletter and it continues to be the first and only standard way to communicate cell-based product data with partners like Epic or commercial cell product manufacturers. STEMSOFT is committed to supporting FHIR and Biologically Derived Product, with David Barwin, our Product Director, sitting on the standards committee and all our products already supporting it in current releases. I urge all of you, as individuals, no matter where you are in the world, to comment in support of the inclusion of Biologically Derived Product in the United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI):

Adding Biologically Derived Product to the USCDI will mandate US-based EMR vendors support the concept in their FHIR infrastructure, which means that users all over the world will be able to exchange cell product data in a standard, consistent way.

The easiest way to ensure that you are able to take advantage of supported standards while also reducing your information security risk and technological risk, is to keep your STEMSOFT products up to date. If you are using STEMSOFT LAB v1.0.21541.0 or earlier; STEMSOFT CLINIC v1.0.22644.0 or earlier; or STEMSOFT CORD v1.0.21543.0 or earlier, we will need to update your software as soon as possible. Please contact us at support@stemsoft.com to schedule a review of the risk assessment and start planning your upgrade.

Dr. Allen Eaves receives Order of Canada: We are proud to announce that STEMCELL’s President and CEO, Dr. Allen Eaves, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. The Governor General of Canada made the announcement on December 29, 2022, and STEMCELL has published a press release on our website. One of the nation’s highest forms of recognition, the Order of Canada recognizes people who make extraordinary contributions to Canadian society. In 1981, Dr. Eaves co-founded the Terry Fox Laboratory for Hematology/Oncology Research where he served as Director for 25 years. In 1993, he founded STEMCELL by mortgaging his family home and has since grown it into Canada’s largest biotechnology company with over 2000 employees who develop cutting-edge products and services for the global life sciences community.

Welcome Cindy Chau! STEMSOFT is pleased to welcome back Cindy Chau as Director, Customer Success. Cindy earned a BCom (honors) in Marketing and a BA in Economics from the University of Manitoba. She brings extensive clinical software experience including medical imaging with ALI and McKesson and implementation with STEMSOFT. Most recently, Cindy was Vice President of Operations at PayByPhone, working with cities and clients all over North America. As Director, Customer Success she will oversee the STEMSOFT support and implementation teams, ensuring that we exceed the expectations of our cell therapy clients. In her spare time, she likes to travel, try different restaurants, ski, read, and walk with her family.

Domain Outage: On November 25, 2022, our marketing department discovered that the STEMSOFT website was unreachable. This issue also affected email and STEMSOFT-hosted training and configuration environments. After consulting with our parent company’s (STEMCELL) web development team, the issue was identified as the expiration of our .com domain. Click here to read the note in full.
